Abstract
Voltando as vistas para o "eterno-desconhecido", que abrange cerca de 2/3 da superfície de nosso país as Regiões Norte e Centro-Oeste, não podia o Governo da Revolução continuar, tão-somente, a acalentar lendas e quimeras a respeito do "inferno verde", e tomou sim uma determinação decisiva, corajosa e patriótica ao resolver desvendar todos os mistérios da Amazônia e procurar mostrar, ao mundo inteiro, a realidade brasileira, expressa nas riquezas naturais contidas no bojo de tão imensa região.
O Decreto-lei n.º 1.106, de 16 de junho de 1970, de iniciativa do atual Governo, criou o Programa de Integração Nacional (P.I.N.), considerados a urgência e o relevante interesse público de promover a maior integração à economia nacional das regiões compreendidas nas áreas de atuação da SUDENE e da SUDAM.
