Abstract
O Estado do Rio de Janeiro, por sua importância política, militar e socioeconômica, agora revestida de dimensões maiores, em virtude da recente fusão de dois dos mais importantes Estados da Federação, apresentará, certamente, problemas dos mais variados, tais como explosão demográfica, poluição, exaustão dos recursos naturais, crescimento desordenado das áreas urbanas não podendo, em consequência, prescindir de uma cartografia de boa qualidade, atualizada e em escalas convenientes, sobre a qual serão elaborados todos os estudos e planejamento que tenham como objetivo dar condições adequadas de vida a seus habitantes.
