Abstract

This text discusses the importance of the street fair in the Santa Rosa de Lima district, located in Jaguarari, state of Bahia, for the appreciation and strengthening of local culture. It highlights how specific experiences and memories tied in this space – the street fair – make it unique and relevant to the community. It consists of an experience report based on a qualitative descriptive study which, through participant observation and consultation of records and documents, aimed to describe the structure and context of the district’s street fair, covering the period from the 1980s to the present day. Based on the description of the space, activities, and dynamics of the street fair, a parallel analysis was conducted with a bibliographic survey on street fair and their economic and cultural role. It was concluded that the street fair in question plays a central role in the community, as it has become the main means of communication and circulation of local products. In general, events such as these promote social integration, encompassing economic, cultural, and emotional aspects. Thus, the street fair is an important space for promoting territorial and local identity through social interaction and the appreciation of traditions.
