“We go to sleep professionals and wake up teachers”: Live event marks the return of Diversa Prática Journal

2026-03-25

The Diversa Prática Journal was officially relaunched in a broadcast that brought together professors and managers from the UFU academic community, marking the resumption of a space dedicated to reflection on higher education in Brazil. Created in 2012, the journal returns after an interruption during the pandemic with a renewed proposal.

The broadcast featured the participation of Waldenor Barros Moraes Filho, UFU Pro-Rector; Vivian Duarte Couto Fernandes, head of the Division of Teacher Development and Pedagogical Support (DIDAP); Roberto Bernardino Júnior, Director of Education (Diren); Gilberto José Miranda, Editor-in-Chief; and Vanessa Therezinha Bueno Campos, Associate Professor at FACED.

During the opening, the journal's trajectory and its role in valuing university teaching were highlighted. As pointed out by Vivian Duarte Couto Fernandes, the project “was born with the purpose of strengthening the debate on pedagogical practices, teacher training, and higher education in Brazil.”

  • Focus on Teaching

Throughout the live event, one of the main axes of discussion was the need to strengthen teaching in higher education. Participants emphasized that many professors enter the academic career without specific pedagogical training. This reality was summarized by Gilberto José Miranda, who stated that in the university context, we frequently “go to sleep professionals and wake up teachers,” highlighting the abrupt transition between disciplinary training and the practice of teaching.

In this scenario, Diversa Prática seeks to act as a space for sharing and reflecting on pedagogical practices. As the editor himself highlighted: “what works [...] must be disseminated, must be shared.”

  • New Phase and Expanded Reach

The new stage of the journal brings important changes to its editorial structure. These include the adoption of continuous submission flow, biannual periodicity, and the expansion of publication formats, which now include scientific articles, experience reports, and interviews.

Another point highlighted was the interdisciplinary nature of the periodical. According to the organizers, the journal aims to consolidate itself as “a plural space [...] open to various fields,” expanding the dialogue between different areas of knowledge.

  • More Than a Relaunch

The return of the journal assumes a broader institutional meaning. Vanessa Therezinha Bueno Campos emphasized that the initiative represents “an academic political gesture [...] of valuing teaching,” calling attention to the need to recognize teaching as a central dimension of the university.

At the end of the broadcast, Vivian Duarte Couto Fernandes reinforced the invitation for the academic community to participate, encouraging professors to record and share their experiences, noting that “teaching is a complex practice, but reflecting on teaching [...] is what makes us move forward collectively.”
