The land, the peasantry and agroecology in the Santana Settlement in Monsenhor Tabosa - Ceará, Brazil

Abstract

In this article we analyze the peasant condition in the Santana Settlement in Monsenhor Tabosa – Ceará. We present the struggle for the land of the Settlement and how the peasant organization has been forging possibilities for fighting and achieving a dignified life on the land, through the articulation of the peasantry and the organization of agroecological practices in the territory of the Settlement, which is in the process of agroecological transition. The methodological procedures comprised bibliographical research and field research in which semi-structured interviews were used as the main data collection instrument, in addition to the field journal and photographic records. We found that in the Santana Settlement, peasants organized into collectives and mobilizing through agroecological practices are creating a new peasant condition. It is possible to see that practices are becoming stronger in the territories, in a dialectical perspective that moves life and makes people live, guaranteeing the affirmation of the interests of the peasantry.
