The fragmentation of the original territory of quilombo Morro São João, municipality of Santa Rosa-TO

Abstract

The present work aims to analyze the fragmentation of the Morro São João quilombola territory, in the municipality of Santa Rosa do Tocantins, and from there, delimit its original territory, comprised by the Morro São João, Roma, São Felipe, Barreira das Catas and Santa Pink. Based on a theoretical framework aimed at the quilombola study, the methodological procedures used here were of a qualitative nature, observational, descriptive, prospective, ethnographic study and with comparative analyses. According to scriptural documents issued by the Notary of Nativity, it was possible to reach an area of approximately six thousand and three hundred bushels of land belonging to the quilombo Morro São João. Further studies are still needed to better elucidate this territory and to recognize the importance of this research in valuing the study of traditional quilombola communities, especially the Morro São João quilombo.
