Abstract

The Cariri region of Paraíba is located in the Caatinga morphoclimatic domain, the only exclusive biome in Brazil and also one of the most modified by human action since the beginning of its occupation process and it is also among the most modified by human action. The aim of this study was to evaluate the concentration levels of anthropogenic actions carried out in the Environmental Protection Area of Cariri, in the semiarid region of the state of Paraiba. Mapping was developed from the combination of the drainage network, access roads, Anthropic Transformation Index and land use/land cover with the aid of geotechnologies. The result showed five levels of anthropic action intensity: 1) Very Low (12.79%); 2) Low (9.76%); 3) Medium (21.75%); 4) High (34.32%) and 5) Very High (21.47%). The mapping of intensity of anthropic action was quite satisfactory quantifying and spatializing a pressure on the landscape of the region.
