The management of construction and demolition waste (CDW) is a challenge for Brazilian municipalities, despite the guidelines established by the National Environmental Council (CONAMA) since 2002. The difficulties are greater in small municipalities. This study aimed to analyze CDW management in small municipalities in the Triângulo Mineiro region (state of Minas Gerais), taking into account normative and legal aspects. Municipalities with populations of up to 30 thousand inhabitants were selected, totaling 29 units. This study was conducted through documentary research on CDW management; data collection from municipal integrated solid waste management plans and public bodies linked to the environmental sector responsible for CDW management. In the studied area, public policies and CDW management do not comply with current legislation and standards. Most municipalities dispose of CDW in areas without environmental control and licensing. Although municipal plans recommend recycling and reuse, these practices are not fully implemented. Municipalities do not record the amount of CDW. Because of this, an estimate of the CDW generated in the studied municipalities was made, averaging 0.38 tons of CDW/inhabitant/year. Therefore, aligning CDW management in small municipalities with current legislation is crucial.
