STUDENTS-RESEARCHERS: THE RAPID ASSESSMENT PROTOCOL (RAP) FOR RIVERS AS AN INSTRUMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS

This study aimed to discuss the potentialities of using a Rapid Assessment Protocol (RAP) for rivers as a promoting tool for Environmental Education in a public school in Cariacica, Espírito Santo, Brazil, with high school senior students during Geography classes. The methodological basis involved a brief review of scientific literature about the discussed topics and activities performed before, during, and after the empirical study with the protocol application by the students. The study was conducted in the Bubu River sub-basin in the same municipality, where the protocol was applied at three different points. The results indicate the advantages of using the RAP in promoting Environmental Education in schools, which can be adapted to other spatial delimitations, and the different levels of the studied river environmental conservation and degradation evaluated by the students.
