This paper presents an initial analysis of statistical studies applied to geographic methods. It seeks to meet the demand for analyzing public health and, in particular, investigate the transmission of Covid-19 in the South/Southwest Mesoregion of the state of Minas Gerais from March 2020 to March 2021. The relationship between Descriptive Statistics and Geography is extremely important when dealing with epidemiology. Covid-19 brought debates that highlighted the use of these tools as fundamental to strategizing and planning against the SARS-COV-2 pandemic. This article aims to engage researchers in the attention and operationalization of spatial data as fundamental elements for planning strategies. From the contextualization of concepts and consideration of the problems inherent in using statistics for spatial analysis of Covid-19, the statistics' potential as an ally to epidemiology will be constructed. To this end, the data corresponding to the processes of diffusion and distribution of Covid-19 were analyzed from the hypothesis of internalization of the contamination of the disease in the Mesoregion under study.
