Abstract

Cartography is a very important tool, since it makes possible the representation of the space and the complex and diverse variables that integrate the terrestrial surface. In the scope of Geomorphology, it has been increasingly used as a methodological framework both for studies aimed at the analysis and understanding of the dynamics and processes responsible for the generation of different types of relief models, as well as support for planning.. In this context, this communication aims to elucidate how geoprocessing and geotechnology are part of the routine of the cartographic treatment of the relief, its potentialities and constraints, weighted from an experience with the cartography of relief carried out in the vicinity of the municipality of Goianá located in the micro region  Juiz de Fora, in the Zona da Mata Mineira. As a methodology for the distinction and classification of relief forms, the proposal was elaborated within the scope of IBGE, whose basic principle is the ordering of geomorphological facts according to a classification that takes into account temporal and spatial aspects, and that makes possible the distinction of the modeled as the basic unit of relief, as well as the groupings that maintain hierarchical relations with these basic units.
