EDUCATION AND POLITICAL ACTION AS SOCIAL PHENOMENA: CHALLENGES AND POSSIBILITIES WITHIN THE TRADITIONAL COMMUNITIES OF GERAIZEIRAS, IN SÃO DESIDÉRIO-BA

This article is part of the results achieved from conducting both Research and Extension Projects whose objectives were focused on analysing social, political and economic challenges, as well as epistemological and theoretical ones, in order to carry out the social phenomena of education and political action in the traditional territory of the Geraizeiros, located in the Guará river, São Desidério-BA. This participatory research, in light of the humanist and phenomenological geography, and in dialogue with the science of cognition, guided the theoretical and methodological paths of the studies and analyses carried out thus far. The co-participatory Geraizeiras communities' daily social coexistence is intimately forged in their relationship and symbolic and affective interaction with the Cerrado, from they which derive their agroextractivist know-how. However, there is a history of omission regarding social and political rights, as well as external influences on this dynamic which conditioned, and still condition, structural changes and behaviour among Geraizeiras families. These changes generate vulnerabilities, and studies point to the importance contained in the experiential continuum that exists between the social phenomena of education and political action, which have the means to achieve positive transformations in the observed vulnerability scenario in the exchange between knowledge and experiences.
