The Brazilian semiarid is different from the rest of the planet because it is the rainiest and populous, as well as the occurrence of sub-humid enclaves. In these islands of humidity can be found from evergreen-type vegetation like semi-deciduous forests. For the vegetation studies of these environments, Remote Sensing has been one of the most used techniques for data collection. The vegetation analysis is generally associated with index applications, with NDVI and SAVI one of the most used. Several studies carried out in the Brazilian semi-arid region used the SAVI, due to its correction factor to the soil effect. Although the SAVI is adequate for the semi-arid region, it can not be used as a priority, and the exception areas will present particular vegetation. Therefore, it was necessary to test the two indices and identify which would provide a more effective response to the area under study. For the analysis, data from Landsat 8 were used for wet and dry periods. For both periods, the variation of the indices occurred similarly, showing the same characteristics of vegetation and allowing to conclude that both are satisfactory for the quantification and representation of the local vegetation.
