Abstract

This paper aimed to analyze the surface runoff potential in the Water Resources Management Unit 22 (UGRHI 22), Pontal do Paranapanema-SP, in the period of 1962 and 2014, considering different land uses. We employed the Curve Number Model to estimate the surface runoff according the precipitation, soil moisture and the relationship between land cover and soil infiltration capacity. The model used the annual precipitation totals of the historical series from 1960 to 2015, the pedological map and the land cover and land use maps of 1962 and 2014. The model was generated through the map algebra technique with the aid in a GIS. The analysis of the maps allowed identifying areas of the UGRHI that have had changes in the surface runoff due to the changes of the land cover and use. It was possible to observe an increase in the surface runoff due to the replacement of pasture by temporary crops, which in this case, dominantly sugarcane. Confronting in time, the changes in land cover and use showed higher runoff for the 2014 compared to 1962 year.
