The central objective of the research is to investigate the human thermal comfort (HTC) of the resident population of Balneário Camboriú - Santa Catarina, who use the city's open spaces during the summer season. To this end, four different thermal environments with different urban morphologies were identified: P1 – “Praia Central Waterfront”, surrounded by buildings that circulate along the beach waterfront; P2 – “Praia das Taquaras”, a beach near the urban center; P3 – “Journal Página 3”, a place with lower verticality in a residential neighborhood; P4 – “Emasa”, a place of a large urban gorge. The Sky View Factor (SVF) methodology was used to characterize the urban morphology of the rocky points, and the PET (Physiological Equivalent Temperature) and UTCI (Universal Thermal Climate Index) indices were calibrated to evaluate the HTC. The study demonstrates that access to solar radiation at pedestrian level can be both advantageous and disadvantageous during the summer season, depending on local urban morphology and the time of day.
