Studies on land use and land cover address the natural characteristics of the landscape and how human activities utilize the land, respectively. The objective of this study was to analyze the impact of hydroclimatic variability on changes in land use and land cover in the semi-arid region of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, from 2000 to 2020. This analysis was conducted using pluviometric data and remote sensing via Google Earth Engine (GEE). A supervised classification algorithm was applied on the GEE platform using Collection 8 data from the MapBiomas project and considering the years 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2020. Pluviometric data and precipitation reports were obtained from the Agricultural Research Company of Rio Grande do Norte's (EMPARN) hydrometeorological system and processed using Microsoft Excel. Land cover oscillations were observed, showing reductions in the percentages of the Other Perennial Crops (-92.68%) and Grassland Formation (-73.35%) classes and an increase in Water Bodies (287.11%) and Other Temporary Crops (250.41%). The remaining land use classes showed minor fluctuations. This study revealed significant land use changes influenced by pluviometric variability and human interventions, particularly the expansion of water bodies and the reconfiguration of the agricultural matrix
