MICROCLIMATES IN A SLUM ENVIRONMENT IN THE CITY OF JOÃO PESSOA (PB)OÃO PESSOA (PB)

Abstract

The work is aligned with the social approach of the geographical analysis of the climate for the realization of microclimatic experiments in external plots of a slum in the city of João Pessoa (PB). The main objective of the research is to investigate the changes in meteorological variables (temperature and relative humidity) in a highly socially vulnerable environment. To this end, a pilot experiment was conducted in the Tito Silva Slum, located in the Miramar neighborhood, one of the neighborhoods with the greatest socio-spatial disparity in the city. Sampling points were selected in the external lots of the slum and outside it for hourly and simultaneous measurement of air temperature and humidity data in two distinct periods of the city's climatic seasonality. The main results indicate that highest temperature values were recorded in the external lots of the slum, resulting in a higher frequency of thermal discomfort values, especially during the hottest and driest period of the year in João Pessoa.
