Urban development in several Brazilian cities occurred intensely and without due public planning, leading to significant human interventions, such as changes in the landscape and land cover and use. In addition to other consequences, this type of action combined with adverse weather conditions, increases the occurrence of erosive processes. This phenomenon is considered one of urban centers most significant environmental problems. Given this circumstance, the present study sought to map the susceptible areas to erosion processes in the Tejipió river basin in Pernambuco. In order to produce this mapping, five factors were used that favor the occurrence of this type of phenomenon: geology, geomorphology, pedology, climatology, and land cover and use, which were processed in the Geographic Information System (GIS) using reclassification and algebra techniques of maps. After composing the susceptibility map, it was revealed that the most prone areas to this process are those with more urbanized areas, sandy soils, and less cohesive rocks. The importance of preparing this mapping is highlighted in terms of supporting the implementation of adequate urban and territorial planning to slow down erosion processes and reduce impacts caused to the population.
