Abstract

One of the striking problems of the metropolis of São Paulo, typical of a peripheral country like Brazil, is the inequality in the commuting times in everyday mobility. Thus, the objective of this paper is to understand the unequal times in everyday mobility from the perspective of slow men and women in the metropolis of São Paulo. The methodology is based on an empirical analysis of the theoretical-philosophical proposition of Milton Santos' slow men, from a quantitative and qualitative approach. For the first, we used microdata from the Origin and Destination survey of the São Paulo Metro from the years 1997, 2007 and 2017. The qualitative approach was based on the reports of research participants in collaborative digital mapping workshops, about the experiences and experience of residents of the periphery in the daily mobility. Slow men and women are ordinary people, residents of the poor peripheries of the metropolis of São Paulo, who reflect on their condition when crossing the city to work in precarious public transport.
