Abstract

This article aims to analyze the network of cities in western Bahia, from the mapping of public and private services and modern commerce present in the main urban centers of the region. It was found that the cities with the highest concentration of services and businesses are Barreiras, Luís Eduardo Magalhães and Bom Jesus da Lapa. To operationalize this research, the methodology used by IBGE was adopted, especially in the study entitled “Networks and flows in the territory: Territory Management” (2014), that had as base of data survey the own sites of the institutions and companies selected for the research. With the mapping, it was possible to understand a little better the current dynamics of the network of cities in western Bahia, revealing the selective modernization that has been taking place in the region and the unequal uses of the territory.
