Abstract

Studies about hydrographical basin are relevant to geographical science. One of the
focuses of those studies is the morphometric analysis and its quantitative
interpretations. The main goal of this essay is based on the accomplishment of the
morphometric analysis of the Padre Stream basin, situated in Ponta Grossa – PR. The
methodology used includes the morphometric analysis and the classification through
Straler‟s hierarchy being possible to do the morphometric accounts, using linear, area
and hypsometrical analysis of the drainage network. We looked for the relation between
the drainage pattern and the different rocks basement as Itarare Group, composed of
permeable rocks, and Serra Geral and Ponta Grossa Formation, which are composed of
impermeable rocks, besides, in the last one, there are fracture and faults in the area.
The geological aspects were very important to establish the correlation between the
drainage pattern and the morphometry. The research results permitted to conclude that
the drainage pattern of the Padre Stream hydrographical basin differ from its heads,
being dendritic and straight through the main river.
