Abstract

This study aims to observe how social changes can be reflected in the choices and lexical knowledge of Brazilian Portuguese speakers, thus generating records of linguistic variations. Therefore, the answers of the informants of the Project Linguistic Atlas of Brazil (ALiB) were collected, with regard to question 123 of the Semantic Questionnaire - Lexical (QSL), which aims to verify the denominations for women who help the child to be born, in 13 locations of the 250 that make up the Points Network of the referred Project. From the answers presented by the informants, collected through linguistic surveys, it was possible to verify the variation of diagenerational character with regard to the item midwife, as well as to identify, through their discourses, the awareness of the presence of this factor related to the age group in the surveys analyzed.
