Abstract

School Curriculum in Professional Technical Education (High School), our target area, is defined as 'the theoretical-methodological framework that directs the development of professional technical training at the high school, according to the social demands, which include the productive and labor demands'. We aim to discuss aspects related to neology, cognition and communication related to the terms of the target area, with the analysis of authentic Brazilian texts, written, legal, institutional and pedagogical, that make up corpus produced between 2000 and 2016. We will emphasize the neological function , which refers to the capacity of the terms of linguistically materializing new concepts, linked to terminologization (the transposition of the conceptual level to the linguistic level). The neological function is evidenced in syntagmatic compositions, according to its character of unfinished lexicalization, as in curricular matrix; profile organized by competencies (abilities); curriculum organized by competencies (abilities). The neological function allows the creation of new terms (neology), in the syntagmatic axis, as competence (ability), with which are created other terms, composed: professional competences, general competences, labor competences. These new terms formed by composition on the horizontal axis of the phrase are called syntagmatic neologisms, which are very frequent in the new terminologies. The neological function also characterizes simple terms, formed by only one lexical item, such as function, which constitutes a semantic neologism, by the attribution of a new meaning to a signifier already present in the language - in this case, the novelty (or neo) is in new meaning, not in a new form or composition. We use principles of the Sociocognitive and Communicative Theories of Terminology, valuing cognitive and communicative aspects of the terms, beyond lexical creativity.
