Abstract

Ten years ago a strange "carnivalesque" act took over the streets of São Paulo on April 1st. Cordão da Mentira created a new form of occupation of the streets, joining the parade with committed sambas, theatrical interventions and performances, changing the names of street signs, and paying homage to past and present political militants. The central axis of this manifestation is the State Terror in Brazil and its manifestations during the dictatorship and the democratic period.
