Abstract
A partir de 1968, por iniciativa da Comissão Nacional de Atividades Espaciais, hoje Instituto de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE), do Conselho Nacional de Pesquisas (CNPq), começou a desenvolver-se em nosso país um novo ramo científico, o do sensoriamento remoto. Tal fato teve início em cooperação com a "National Aeronautics and Space Administration" - NASA - dos E.U.A., em uma primeira fase designada A e que compreendeu o treinamento, por seis meses, de um grupo multidisciplinar (principalmente em geociências) de técnicos brasileiros, junto ao "Manned Spacecraft Center", da NASA, em Houston, Texas; a Universidades e outras entidades participantes dos E.U.A.
