Abstract
A representação completa de uma região por meio de um mapa topográfico, em escala conveniente disponível no momento necessário é sempre de capital importância no planejamento de obras de engenharia. Se este mapa for estabelecido depois de iniciada, ou após concluída determinada obra somente poderá servir para discutir os erros cometidos ou aquilatar dos recursos mal-empregados. Mas, apesar disso, nem sempre os povos têm ideia do dano causado a empresas, grupos econômicos e mesmo a nações pela falta, parcial ou completa, de documentação cartográfica adequada, falta essa que sempre conduz a erros graves nos processos de planejamento ou, em certos casos, até impede a execução de projetos.
