Abstract

Uruaú is a community located in the municipality of Beberibe, east coast of the State of Ceará. One of its cultural manifestations is “culture of the Papangus” which is formed from figures that mask themselves and wear costumes to build performances on the streets. This article discusses the methods of inserting the players in the manifestation from the contact with the mask, whip and costume and how the relationship with these markers dialogue with the socio-economic reality of Uruaú takes place. The objective of this study is to analyze the insertion of the participants in the demonstration based on the idea of popular education. To meet the research objectives the use of the qualitative method was made, also making use of  field observation and conversations with players.
