Eva, Pandora and the Creation of Women in Judeo-Christian and Greek Cultures

The female figure is one of the most explored aspects in literature, and in several cultures its origin is shrouded in mist: Eve, Pandora, Saravasti, Embla, there are several possibilities depending on where one looks for. In this article, considerations are made about both Eve (the first woman created according to the Judeo-Christian vision, by using the Holy Bible as its main bibliographic source, specifically chapters 1, 2 and 3 of the book of Genesis) and Pandora (the first woman created according to the Greek vision, by using as main bibliographical sources two works by Hesiod: Theogony, and Works and days). The objective is not to make a value judgment regarding the feminine origins narrated by both peoples, but to make comparisons, verifying their similarities and differences, in considering by Marcel Detiene’s thought formulated in “Comparar o Incomparável”.
