The history of the regional demarcations of the Sierra Madre de Chiapas (SMCh) and the Frailesca is based on political processes linked, initially, with economic importance and more recently with the environment. The objective is to briefly address the genesis of the "irregular" populations located within a Natural Protected Area (NPA) in the south of the state of Chiapas. A brief chronology was made with the main elements that favored the demarcation of the two regions to later analyze their social implications in the demarcation of the Sierra de Villaflores micro-region. It was found that the regional demarcations of both SMCh and Frailesca perpetuated the reproduction of cacique social relations, the effects of which are accentuated at the micro-regional scale because it has provoked an internal and external distinction between the ejidos and the "irregular" populations.
