Land use change has the potential to alter soil physical attributes and its infiltration capacity. The objective of this study was to evaluate the differences in physical-hydric attributes of soil under eucalyptus cultivation (5 years old) compared to its previous use of extensive pasture. The study was conducted at the Federal Institute of Espírito Santo, in Alegre - ES, Brazil. In each area, water infiltration tests were conducted at nine systematically distributed points. Soil sampling was carried out at layers of 0-10, 10-20, and 20-40 cm at three points around each infiltration test. The evaluated attributes were stable infiltration rate (Tie), soil density (Ds), total porosity (Pt), macro (Ma) and microporosity (Mi), particle size distribution, total organic carbon (COT), and penetration resistance (RP). There was no significant difference for Tie and COT between land uses. The area under eucalyptus plantation presented higher values of Ds at a layer of 0-10 cm and lower values of Pt and Mi for all three layers. For the management employed, the five-year period of forest cultivation was not sufficient to improve the soil physical quality.
