Abstract

This study analyzed the bank erosion process of the Jaguaribe River from 2015 to 2023, in a trench of approximately 10 km, located downstream of the Castanhão Reservoir in its lower course, precisely in the municipality of Quixeré, Ceara state, Brazil. For this purpose, nine erosion stations were chosen for monitoring, which were divided into three groups: Conserved Area (AC), Partially Conserved Area (APC) and Degraded Area (AD). The erosion pin methodology was used for monitoring. The Degraded Area group presented the largest volume of eroded material, while the Conserved Areas presented the lowest values of erosion rates and eroded volume. For the period evaluated, the main erosive conditioning factor was precipitation. The following erosion processes were observed in the studied sections: fluvial and pluvial erosion, shear collapse, and subsurface erosion (piping).
