IMPACTS OF HUMAN ACTION ON ECOSYSTEM SERVICES IN A WATER RESERVOIR DURING THE RAINY SEASON IN THE SEMI-ARID REGION OF BRAZIL

Abstract

Water reservoirs are great allies for a good coexistence with the semi-arid region, they offer several ecosystem services (ES) that are important for people's quality of life. The classification of the ES provided by reservoirs is important, so that in addition to knowing which services are offered, it is possible to contribute to management and sustainable management, minimizing impacts caused by human interference. The objective of this research was to identify the ES provided by the Ministro João Alves Dam (Boqueirão), in Parelhas/RN, during the annual rainy season in the region and to evaluate how these services are being impacted. For this, the methodological procedures were: list of field control to identify and, classification of the ES through CICES (v. 5.1) and application of the DPSIR method to assess impacts. The results showed the occurrence of services in the three categories - provision, regulation and maintenance, and cultural - during the rainy season (even at certain times of the year). It can then be concluded that the water services offered by the reservoir are predominant during the period when there is a greater rainfall record. The compromise in human and animal supply was considered one of the most visible impacts.
