THE CHRONICLER AND THE GEOGRAPHER: AFFECTIVE URBAN AUTOBIOGRAPHIES AND KNOWLEDGE IN THE CITY OF SOBRAL - CE BRAZIL

Abstract

This article aims to connect existential and autobiographical geographies supported by forms of knowledge and affectivity. It proposes to explore geographical knowledge based on vernacular knowledge of chronic literature and vehicular knowledge of geographical science. In this regard, it seeks to highlight connections between two autobiographies: first, that of a writer rooted in Sobral, and second, that of a geographer born in the same city. The affective dimension of space experience, geographic vernacular knowledge, and academic vehicular geographic knowledge are key terms; there is strong interconnectivity between subjects in their particular existences whose meanings explain the existential dimensions as geographical facts. The methodology focuses on the existential interpretation of images and urban landscapes experienced and the search for their essences or spatial realities, which are closer to what they are. It emphasizes that geography and existences established under particular knowledge and affectivities are part of the human essence in space. They are part of the knowledge production, hence the need to overcome reductionist scientific methodological limits.
