AN ANALYSIS OF ATMOSPHERIC EXPERIENCES IN THE WATER SUMMED SETTLEMENT IN TEODORO SAMPAIO/SP/BR

Abstract

The present work analyzes the speeches of women residents of the agrarian reform settlement Água Sumida, located in Teodoro Sampaio, western portion of the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The article portrays the impressions about the atmospheric experiences of these women. Three relationships were highlighted: “The caterpillar crisis”, “The atmospheric experience in the cane fields” and “Topophilia and climate perception”. The first episode refers to the analysis of the atmospheric combinations that favored the proliferation of a plague that devastated the pastures of the region and the monitoring of the confrontation of this crisis by the settlers. The second concerns living at risk on the frontiers of sugarcane production. The third set of reflections contemplates the identity and resilient elements and the experiential knowledge of the place and the climate. The results demonstrate the analytical possibilities in the geographical studies of the climate and the importance of centralizing the subjects in these investigations, above all for the deep understanding of the unequal experience of the climate and of the climatic injustices.
