Abstract

Gaston Bachelard cultivated the image of a Geographer in his philosophical texts: a geographer from bachelardian imagination, universal and imaginary, who, perhaps, had an emblematic and romantic reflection in Humboldt. Bachelard, however, would inadvertently provide us, geographers, an in-depth methodology. This article endeavors to understand the bachelardian phenomenology as a manifestation of space in consciousness and its importance as an ontological mechanism and motor of imagination. Space is the beginning of an image that, taking phenomenology as a method of approach, offered Bachelard an ontological understanding of the lived space.
