Abstract

The purpose of this work is to present the notion of territoriality from the perception of the Munduruku people who live in the municipality of Borba, State of Amazonas, and to analyze, above all, the relations of the way of thinking the place currently. It is evident that the territory consists of a space of ethnic belonging where both concrete and abstract historical phenomena are inserted and preserved in the indigenous territorial landscape. The cultural, symbolic and social belonging that a particular original people establishes with their means of living occurs through their permanence in the place. The Munduruku people, in this sense, are the true subjects that established this connection with nature, understood as part of the human body that needs to be taken care of. This conception does not differentiate them from other peoples. This work is part of studies of great importance in cultural geography and, as a result, it shows that the space experienced by Mundurukus carries on an ancestral self-care mainly on the earth, seen through cultural and subjective ethnic experience. The reflections and results are anchored in qualitative research, through a phenomenological approach that considers the relationships and experiences (lived and subjective) of people and the collective with their respective meanings.
