Abstract

The main objective of this work was to understand the (re)production of urban space and the process of socio-spatial segregation in Poços de Caldas (MG). Over time, Poços de Caldas changed its forms, functions and urban structure. From the double process of urbanization-industrialization, its intra-urban space underwent several transformations. This city restructuring that took place after the 1970s intensified the process of socio-spatial segregation. The city has become heavily dispersed and fragmented due to the implementation of housing programs in areas far from the center and discontinuous from the general urban fabric, and by the implementation of closed residential spaces on the periphery.
