Abstract

In an urban context marked by inequality, violence rates grow and criminal conducts, such as homicides, which shock much of Brazilian society, become commonplace. Starting from a perspective that seeks to relate geography with the theme of criminality, this paper deals with the theme of murders (intentional lethal crimes) in the city of Vila Velha/ES, from 2014 to 2019. Presenting a brief discussion on the dynamics of spatial segregation resulting from the recent urbanization process experienced by the cities of the Metropolitan Region of Grande Vitória (RMGV), this paper sought to understand, through the spatialization of data on murders, how this type of offense can be understood as an aspect, a face of violence that characterizes the rapid process of capitalist growth of the city in recent decades.
