Abstract

The Baixo Parnaíba, state of the Maranhão, Brazil, is characterized as the new "Eldorado do Agribusiness". It is noteworthy the advance of eucalyptus plantations and land pressure in the region increasingly present. On the other hand, the peasants enjoy flour as the main economic strategy to resist the struggle for/on the land and ensure its maintenance. Based on field research (empirical), bibliographic and documentary survey, it is evident that, in the period between 1990 and 2018, the Baixo Parnaíba experienced important transformations in agrarian space. It is observed that flour represents, more than an economic strategy, it is realized as a process of sociability, a moment in which the group shares knowledge, cultural values, rules, customs, exchanges of important products to ensure the condition of social reproduction of the group.
