Abstract

This paper organizes information about the distribution of COVID-19 in the cities of the south of Minas Gerais state in the first half of 2020. It aims to offer a record of the circulation of the pandemic in the highlighted period, investigating its diffusion and containment process through territorial circulation infrastructures.  These infrastructures are associated with the ascendancy of the technical-scientific-informational milieu and they were fundamental to the pandemic scattering. They were also important elements for mitigating the deleterious effects of virus and for development plans and projects. In particular, this article seeks to provide a mapping and an organization data that can help decision makers in combating the spread of new Coronavírus or new variants that can be registered in regions where medium and small cities prevail. It analyzes the territorial dynamics associated with the spatial spread of the virus and its impacts, once the cities have few health services and low complexity of care. The diagnosis made shows that the pandemic spread in the south of Minas Gerais by through of the main highways that connect the Minas Gerais state to the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
