Abstract

Graffiti is a graphic manifestation, developed predominantly through writing or drawings mixed with writing, which is difficult to interpret. This article seeks to identify how graffiti artists perceive and value the aspects present in the urban landscape, selecting the places to be graffiti. Based on a primary search for information, labelers were asked to identify “desired” and “avoided” locations in factories. The Belo Horizonte Hypercenter was used as a reference and a set of instruments: a) cartographic plan, used to record the interviewees' knowledge b) plans for building and house facades, to identify the selectivity of the graffiti process in buildings; c) interview script, with open questions. The general results of this work revealed that the labelers have a spatial logic that privileges and / or avoids places from the set of activities and urban functions present there, and also related to the groups of people that circulate in the region. It was concluded that the markers, as agents producing urban space, experience a set of unique perceptions about the city resulting in the production of a knowledge of the common city among these actors and, also, a careful evaluation of the desired places, in the fitting of a subscription.
