AVALIAÇÃO DOS IMPACTOS DA POLUIÇÃO NAS ÁGUAS SUPERFICIAIS DE UM AFLUENTE DO RIO SOLIMÕES NA AMAZÔNIA CENTRAL BRASILEIRA

Abstract

The assessment and monitoring of the quality of water resources is essential for preserving the environment, as they illustrate the levels of environmental and public health. Therefore, the principle objective of the current study is to identify the main polluting sources and to analyze the water quality in the vicinity of the city of Anamã, Amazonas state, Brazil. Analysis of polluting sources and collection of physical, chemical and microbiological parameters were carried out in the first half of 2017, along the riverbank in both urban and rural areas. Urban areas had a higher volume of solid waste, with a significant difference between rural and peri-urban areas (p = 0.005 and 0.036), indicating a high degree of pollution. In addition, urban areas were classified as unsuitable for bathing. In general, the limnological parameters met the environmental resolutions of CONAMA (Conselho Nacional de Meio Ambiente) and the total suspended solids and electrical conductivity were significant in axis 1 and 2 of the Principal Component Analysis (PCA), with high values in urban and peri-urban environments. These variables are important for determining water quality, especially as they are associated with altered environments.
