Abstract

This paper aims on spreading the results obtained with the geomorphological mapping and morphostrutuctural compartimentalization of the Novo river basin (MG) as tools for regional relief evolution interpretation. The geomorphological chart, edited in the scale of 1/50.000, was conceived in consonance with the methodological plan established by Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística. The work did the mapping of geomorphological unities ordered in patterns of similar forms according to the modeleds of dissection and agradation identified and its fundamental morphometrics aspects (declivity, depth of dissection and interfluvial dimension). In a second level of approach it was engaged the insertion of representative symbols of morphological lineament and recent processes (scarps, ravines, sandification focuses, fluvial captures), enabling an embracing interpretation of the relief of the area of study in its forms and processes, past and recent. Finally, the geomorphological map was associated with the existing lithotypes and the structural lineaments extracted for the relief and drainage to elaborate the morphostructural subdivision of the basin, exalting the role of geomorphological cartography as an important tool for morphogenetic studies.
