En el aprendizaje de las ciencias se emplea el término movilizar conocimientos para aludir a la aplicación de lo aprendido en nuevas situaciones, contextos y problemas. Por lo regular, se asume que movilizar los aprendizajes es una actividad intuitiva que consiste en transformar los conocimientos e ideas implícitas en ideas explícitas por medio del lenguaje. En este escrito se realiza una revisión de la concepción clásica de movilidad de conocimientos y se comunican algunas limitaciones de este enfoque, como reducir el aprendizaje, confundir el término con transferencia o generalización y presentar la movilidad como un acto intuitivo. El propósito es proponer la movilidad de conocimientos en el aprendizaje de las ciencias como una actividad agencial que exige auto regulación y control de las acciones mentales que integran la movilidad. Con base en la teoría de la actividad agencial de Igor M. Arievitch, se caracterizan las acciones mentales necesarias para comprometerse activamente en la movilidad de conocimientos. Desde esta postura se expone cómo la movilidad de conocimientos es una actividad emergente que deviene eficiente con el control y orientación de la actividad misma. La explicación que se expone es de naturaleza reflexiva y teórica por medio del diálogo entre referentes empíricos de la didáctica de las ciencias con la teoría de la actividad agencial.
