Abstract

This article reflects on the experience of undergraduate psychology students at the International Symposium on Emotions, Culture and Art, an occasion that allowed students to question the clinical approach that predominates in the discipline's traditional training. Drawing on this experience, the contribution of the content presented at the symposium is analysed, highlighting art as a medium that fosters development and the construction of knowledge, as well as the initial sense of unfamiliarity with methodologies based on dialogue and participation. Furthermore, the contribution of the Zone of Proximal Development and of Art is examined as a means of understanding emotions and creativity from a perspective broader than the clinical one. Finally, it is concluded that the systematic incorporation of art into undergraduate training may enrich the understanding of psychological development and the education of future professionals.
