Abstract
Developed through the use of charcoal, collage, and sewing, the images presented form part of the series “Lights and Shadows of 2013”. This series was inspired by the occupation of the top floor of the Brazilian National Congress, in June 2013. Its composition operates through play with slogans and figures which stood out that year, and in years following, as echoes of struggles that still continue. In this journal, the figure presented is Cacique José Urutaua Guajajara, leader of Aldeia Maracanã. In 2013, this chieftain remained up a tree for 48 hours, with the intention of preventing the repossession of his indigenous village without a court order.
