Abstract

The central objective of this review is to demonstrate the influential role that consciousness plays in the process of education as a practice of freedom. The main emphasis will be placed on the process that conscientization plays in using education to liberate men, who are subjects and not objects, from a situation of oppression and injustice in which they find themselves, as well as on the role of conscientization as the primary goal of education.

Master degree student in Technological Education, Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Triângulo Mineiro, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil; professor in the Law course at the University of Uberaba, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil.
