PROVOQUE as a methodology: Theoretical-Methodological contributions for research in Visual Arts

The article discusses PROVOQUE - Problematizing Visualities and Questioning Stereotypes, a visual investigation methodology for research in Visual Arts. Epistemologically grounded in Cultural Studies and Visual Culture Studies, the methodology is structured in five stages: Flirting, Perceiving, Estranging, Dialoguing, and Sharing. Through bibliographic research and a state-of-knowledge survey, the text contextualizes the creation of PROVOQUE, details its epistemological foundations, and explains its methodological functioning, analyzing its dissemination in the Brazilian academic environment. The argumentation demonstrates PROVOQUE's potential for critical analyses of contemporary visual artifacts, especially regarding the identification and problematization of stereotypes. As results, the applicability of PROVOQUE is evidenced in 34 products (20 articles, 1 review, and 13 graduate works), covering studies on representations of gender, sexuality, race, and intersectional dissidences.
