Cognitive, linguistic and sociocultural aspects of the translation unit (TU):
a plurisystemic approach based on translation from libras into written portuguese

The aim here is to present the condition and functioning of the translation unit (TU) from a plurisystemic perspective, through a cognitive, linguistic and sociocultural reading. It draws on the contributions of Even-Zohar (2005), Bybee (2006) and Höder (2014). Like Toury (1995), the translation activity is assumed to be a phenomenon focused on the meta-system, which implies considering the goal, function and task (Nord 1991, 2001; Reiss and Vermeer 1996). In addition to a literature review, the methodology of this work is qualitative, exploratory, empirical and inductive. The data analyzed was taken from the TV INES. The results suggest that: (i) considering TU from a plurisystemic perspective contributes to analysis and practice of translations and (ii) the frequency of occurrence and the position that a given construction occupies in the translation system are not, a priori, equivalent.
