CONSERVATION OF WATER RESOURCES IN RURAL AREAS: BIBLIOMETRIC RESEARCH ON PAYMENT FOR ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES IN A FREE ACCESS DATABASE

Abstract

The current scale of human intervention in ecosystem dynamics, especially in rural areas, has been altering the flow of benefits provided by water. Payment for Environmental Services (PES) programs have stimulated behavioral changes by financially compensating rural landowners in exchange for ensuring the provision of environmental services. Thus, through a bibliometric research, we sought to survey the Brazilian publications that address the issue of PES and the conservation of water resources in rural areas, using the Open Access database Google Scholar, the social network ResearchGate and Portal de Periódicos da CAPES. The research is classified as exploratory and descriptive, with quantitative documentary analysis. PES are increasingly occupying more space in the Brazilian environmental agenda for being able to maintain the relationship between society and nature in balance, making it essential to disseminate this learning process in the most varied data sources as a way to popularize science, expand the scope of research, inspire new initiatives and mobilize decision-makers to strengthen this important public policy. Despite the limitations of Google Scholar and ResearchGate, both platforms are useful to give visibility and expand the reach of scientific publications related to environmental issues.

Author Biographies

Liliane Lacerda, Universidade Anhanguera

Master's student in the Postgraduate Program in Environment and Regional Development - Universidade Anhanguera UNIDERP. Graduated in Biology from Universidade Católica Dom Bosco (UCDB/MS) in 2002, with specialization in Tourism and Environment (UCDB), was a trainee at Fundação Grupo Boticário through the Trainee Program in Environment and Environmental Educator at Fundação Neotrópica do Brasil. She is Executive Director of the Instituto das Águas da Serra da Bodoquena - IASB (www.iasb.org.br). Since 2004 she works in the region of Serra da Bodoquena (MS) in several socio-environmental projects, carrying out activities with the themes of Environmental Education, Forest Restoration and Incentive and Strengthening of Agroecology and Rural Extension, having idealized projects such as: Socio-Environmental Fair of Bonito, the Program of Incentive to the Expansion of Green Areas in the Region of Serra da Bodoquena, Program Sentinels of the Mountain and created the Environmental Calendars Environmental Education in the Pantanal and In the Lines of Serra da Bodoquena. She promotes and coordinates environmental education and awareness activities with youth and adults, and works with public and private institutions to promote soil and water conservation actions. She is a volunteer for the Environmental Military Police, where she supports and actively collaborates with Environmental Education actions in the riverside schools of the Southern Pantanal, and is also responsible for the environment, cataloging, species identification, and information layout for the Environmental Education Museum of the 2nd Company, located in Corumbá. She produced several didactic materials for IASB, such as Activity Magazines, Bookmarks and Primers. She was one of the organizers of the book Floresta, Água e Clima (Forest, Water and Climate) that gathered socio-environmental initiatives from all over Brazil. She also coordinated the National Seminar on Public Policies for Forest, Water and Climate, held in Bonito/MS in 2015 to bring together projects across the country supported by the Petrobras Socioenvironmental Program. She has experience in people and project management and with the following topics: conservation, forest nurseries, forest restoration, environmental education, ecotourism, technical events, Serra da Bodoquena. She is a member of the Serra da Bodoquena National Park Council, State Committee of the Atlantic Forest Biosphere Reserve, Parliamentary Front for Water Resources in MS and the Municipal Environment Council of Bonito/MS.

Ademir Kleber Morbeck de Oliveira, Universidade Anhanguera

He has a degree in Biological Sciences (Licenciatura Plena) from the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (1989), master's degree in Ecology and Natural Resources from the Federal University of São Carlos (1993) and doctorate in Science, concentration area in Ecology and Natural Resources from the Federal University of São Carlos (1996). He is currently a professor at Anhanguera-Uniderp University, Biological Sciences course and the Environment and Regional Development Program, Environmental Sciences area, in the Society, Environment and Sustainable Regional Development research line. He has experience in Ecology, with emphasis on Ecosystem Ecology, working mainly on the following topics: ecosystem ecology, Pantanal, ethnobiology, seeds and growth analysis of native species.
